11th European Arthouse Cinema Day – 22 November 2026  ·

Independent cinemas celebrate cultural diversity, dialogue and the power of cinema to bring communities together

On Sunday, 22 November 2026, independent cinemas around the world will join the 11th European Arthouse Cinema Day, an international celebration of European cinema and the shared experience of watching films together. The initiative brings together nearly 660 cinemas across 45 countries, with special screenings, conversations and events designed for local audiences.

In a world marked by growing division, arthouse cinemas offer essential spaces for connection, discovery and dialogue. By championing diverse stories, artistic freedom and independent programming, they help strengthen cultural exchange, mutual understanding and democratic values.

The 2026 edition celebrates the richness of European cinema and the people and places that bring it to audiences. Participating cinemas are invited to shape their own programmes, from premieres and restored classics to documentaries, short films, family screenings, filmmaker Q&As and discussions.

OUR CINEMA’S PROGRAMME

At Cinema Galeries, we will mark European Arthouse Cinema Day with a special screening of Heysel 65 , in the presence of the film’s director. We invite audiences in Brussels to join us on 22 November for this special screening and celebrate European arthouse cinema together.

European Arthouse Cinema Day is organised by the International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas (CICAE) in collaboration with national arthouse cinema associations and audiovisual-sector partners, with the support of Creative Europe MEDIA, the CNC, the FFA, Eurimages and the Europa Cinemas network.
